Bio
Tommy MacDonald is a Nashville-based touring & session bass player that has graced a wide variety of major music releases, including 4 GRAMMY-winning albums. He has toured the globe and performed on stages in a multitude of concert venues.
Tommy has performed on the legendary stages of the Grand Old Opry & The Ryman Auditorium in Nashville TN, as well as performing on several national prime time television shows including the TONIGHT SHOW. He has toured with country artists David Lee Murphy, Keith Anderson, Jimmy Wayne, Lee Roy Parnell, John Berry and many others. He’s also shared the stage with Michael McDonald, Trace Adkins, Billy Ray Cyrus, Miley Cyrus, Big & Rich, John Waite, LIT, James Taylor, Sebastian Bach, Johnny Winter, Carly Simon, Steve Cropper, Mac Davis, Martina McBride, Zac Brown and many others. And to this day, Tommy still performs select tour dates with David Lee Murphy, Jeffrey Steele, Tom Hambridge and others.
Tommy studied music theory and composition at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts while continuing to perfect his bass guitar chops.
In 1996, Tommy moved to Nashville, Tennessee to further his music career. In due time, Tommy was recording in some of Nashville’s top studios, and playing on countless demos for albums, recorded by versatile acts such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rascal Flatts, ZZ Top, Kid Rock, Keith Urban and Tim McGraw.
Most notably, Tommy has played on several Major Label albums including 3 Grammy winning albums by Buddy Guy, the Grammy nominated album ‘I’m A Bluesman’ by Johnny Winter, as well as nominated albums by George Thorogood and James Cotton, Grammy award-winning Indie blues/rock album “662” by Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, award-winning albums by Tom Hambridge, Jeffrey Steele, Mike Zito, Casey James, Kenny Neal, Quinn Sullivan, Ana Popovic and many more.
